What is Total Consecration?

Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary is a 33-day course that builds on True Devotion to Mary according to St. Louis Marie de Montfort. It’s an amazing way to grow deeper in your faith and draw closer to Jesus through Mary. Each of the 33 days includes a short video, some written reflections, and prayer time. Join us!

Why make the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary?

There may be some hesitation by some in making this Marian Consecration. Br. Julian discusses the reasons why we should make this consecration.

Total Consecration Part I – Introduction: Twelve Preliminary Days – Preparation for Days 1-12

There are three sections that St. Louis de Monfort uses for the preparation days. Br. Julian talks about Knowledge of Self, Knowledge of Mary, and Knowledge of Jesus.

Total Consecration: Day 1 – St. Louis Marie de Montfort – Daily Reflection

Our Lord calls the faithful to renounce the spirit of the world. We are called to seek after Our Lord without reserve and without seeking the applause or praise of others. Br. Julian discusses turning away from the spirit of the world and towards Our Lord.

Total Consecration: Day 2 – St. Louis Marie de Montfort – Daily Reflection

Our Lord is calling us to a life of conversion. Both Our Lord and Our Lady want us to go through this ongoing conversion process. We are all sinners in need of the grace of God. Br. Julian teaches us about conforming our lives to Christ.

Jesus calls us to love our neighbor and to not judge the state of their eternal soul. In this video, Br. Julian pinpoints how to take the narrow way of love and choosing God over worldliness.

Discovering what our occasions of sin are and how we can root them out of our lives is very beneficial to the soul. Br. Julian talks about the importance of looking at ourselves honestly, and seeing where we fall short, and striving for an amendment of our lives.

What we need is to change our ways and be converted, making amendments, renouncing the spirit of pride and sensuality that throws us away from God and Our Lady. Don’t let the spirit of the world snatch the glorious crown prepared for you by God Himself for all eternity.

Total Consecration Part II – Introduction: Knowledge of Self – Preparation for Days 13-19

We want to establish the importance of knowing ourselves. This is the theme we must always bear in mind as we move on in this preparation. We should humbly offer our prayers and devotions to ask the light from the Holy Spirit through the intercession of Our Lady that we may see ourselves in this divine light.

Our goal for the next 7 days is the knowledge of self. Following the order of priority in the Lord’s Prayer, the glory of God and his Kingdom should be first and everything will follow.

Obedience is a virtue by which a person promptly carries out the command of his superior. This virtue will become more perfect as the person is more prompt to do the will of the superior even before the express command is given. May our obedience be an opportunity to glorify God following Jesus and Mary in their obedience to do the will of the Eternal Father.

We have this great challenge from Our Lord to repentance. The word repentance is always linked to the promise of forgiveness and the assurance of God’s mercy.

Humility is the foundation virtue of spiritual life. A person without humility cannot grow in holiness because he is too full of himself, and so there is no room for God. Humility gives us the self-knowledge, to know that we are nothing, and can do nothing without God.

In considering the subject on judgment, we need to understand this; in the eyes of God and in his judgment, when he will execute judgment, nothing can escape, everything is written down, all our thoughts, words and actions, everything is well recorded.

Preparing ourselves for consecration to Our Lady, we are going to reflect several points to make us aware of some of our defects, in order to correct them. Scandal, fraternal charity, and faith.

Spiritual perfection consists primarily in the observance of the commandments. The Ten Commandments hang on the two greatest commandments: to love God with all our hearts, with all our soul, and with all our mind; and to love our neighbor as ourselves. One good thing is the practice of examination of conscience, as we usually do before going to the sacrament of confession, or even daily examination of conscience.

Total Consecration Part III – Introduction: Knowledge of Mary – Preparation for Days 20-26

Now beginning the week of ‘knowledge of Mary’ in preparation for Marian consecration, Br. Julian speaks about how important it is to know Mary as one’s mother and Queen.

Mary ponders in her heart all of God’s gifts, his words, and all of his actions and plans. And so, Mary possesses in her Immaculate Heart, the treasures of Christ teachings and words. Imagine, Our Lord stayed with the Blessed Mother for thirty years conversing heavenly things, the loving mercy and the goodness of the Eternal Father.

True devotion grows in us with charity advancing from the stage of the beginner to that of more proficient and continuing up to the perfect. The first degree is to pray devoutly to Mary from time to time, for example, praying the Rosary. The second stage is one of the more perfect sentiments of veneration, confidence, and love by joining Mary’s Confraternities or associations; working to promote Our Lady to make her known and loved and to encourage others to pray the Rosary.

There are five distinctive marks of True Devotion to Our Lady. These are the following namely: interior, tender, holy, constant, and disinterested. Br. Julian explains how these five aspects of devotion to Mary are necessary for Marian Consecration.

Jesus devoted Himself entirely to Mary, why should we not do the same? Br. Julian explains how devotion and consecration to Mary strengthens the gift of our baptism.

The short and narrow way of the Christian path is difficult, but not when we bring ourselves to Mary. Br. Julian teaches how Jesus made His beloved Mother the surest, and simplest path to Heaven.

There are seven effects upon the soul who has consecrated himself to Mary. Br. Julian teaches about these seven effects, and how they transform a consecrated soul to become closer to Mary and Jesus.

With the week of ‘knowledge of Jesus’ beginning, Br. Julian teaches how any devotion, especially devotion to Mary, must always be directed to Jesus as our end goal alone. Mary is our perfect road to Christ, devotion, the bricks of the road.

Out of the great love with which Christ Jesus loved us, He gave us His continual presence in the Most Holy Eucharist. Br. Julian expounds upon the beauty of Christ’s love in the Blessed Sacrament.

The Incarnation is the beginning of all of the mysteries we know of Jesus Christ. Br. Julian speaks about these wondrous mysteries of Jesus, and how we are ever called to delve deeper into them.

The culmination of God’s love is found in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Br. Julian expounds upon how the love of God went to the furthest extent of suffering so that we may be freed from sin and live eternally in the loving mystery of God.

The singular most important act that Mary is the great master of is adoring Jesus. Now consecrated to our Lady, we must strive to do adore in the same way by persistent visits to Him in the Blessed Sacrament. Br. Julian emphasizes the undeniable importance of frequent adoration of the Holy Eucharist in the lives of those consecrated to Mary.
