What is Total Consecration?

Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary is a 33-day course that builds on True Devotion to Mary according to St. Louis Marie de Montfort. It’s an amazing way to grow deeper in your faith and draw closer to Jesus through Mary. Each of the 33 days includes a short video, some written reflections, and prayer time. Join us!

We want to establish the importance of knowing ourselves. This is the theme we must always bear in mind as we move on in this preparation. We should humbly offer our prayers and devotions to ask the light from the Holy Spirit through the intercession of Our Lady that we may see ourselves in this divine light.

Our goal for the next 7 days is the knowledge of self. Following the order of priority in the Lord’s Prayer, the glory of God and his Kingdom should be first and everything will follow.

Obedience is a virtue by which a person promptly carries out the command of his superior. This virtue will become more perfect as the person is more prompt to do the will of the superior even before the express command is given. May our obedience be an opportunity to glorify God following Jesus and Mary in their obedience to do the will of the Eternal Father.

We have this great challenge from Our Lord to repentance. The word repentance is always linked to the promise of forgiveness and the assurance of God’s mercy.

Humility is the foundation virtue of spiritual life. A person without humility cannot grow in holiness because he is too full of himself, and so there is no room for God. Humility gives us the self-knowledge, to know that we are nothing, and can do nothing without God.

In considering the subject on judgment, we need to understand this; in the eyes of God and in his judgment, when he will execute judgment, nothing can escape, everything is written down, all our thoughts, words and actions, everything is well recorded.

Preparing ourselves for consecration to Our Lady, we are going to reflect several points to make us aware of some of our defects, in order to correct them. Scandal, fraternal charity, and faith.

Spiritual perfection consists primarily in the observance of the commandments. The Ten Commandments hang on the two greatest commandments: to love God with all our hearts, with all our soul, and with all our mind; and to love our neighbor as ourselves. One good thing is the practice of examination of conscience, as we usually do before going to the sacrament of confession, or even daily examination of conscience.

Now beginning the week of ‘knowledge of Mary’ in preparation for Marian consecration, Br. Julian speaks about how important it is to know Mary as one’s mother and Queen.

Mary ponders in her heart all of God’s gifts, his words, and all of his actions and plans. And so, Mary possesses in her Immaculate Heart, the treasures of Christ teachings and words. Imagine, Our Lord stayed with the Blessed Mother for thirty years conversing heavenly things, the loving mercy and the goodness of the Eternal Father.

True devotion grows in us with charity advancing from the stage of the beginner to that of more proficient and continuing up to the perfect. The first degree is to pray devoutly to Mary from time to time, for example, praying the Rosary. The second stage is one of the more perfect sentiments of veneration, confidence, and love by joining Mary’s Confraternities or associations; working to promote Our Lady to make her known and loved and to encourage others to pray the Rosary.

There are five distinctive marks of True Devotion to Our Lady. These are the following namely: interior, tender, holy, constant, and disinterested. Br. Julian explains how these five aspects of devotion to Mary are necessary for Marian Consecration.
