Our Foundation Day, July 25th

A church stands in a green field under a partly cloudy blue sky, with large text announcing “Foundation Day” for the Knights of the Holy Eucharist on July 25. A crest appears at the top right.

Today is our Foundation Day — the anniversary of our founding by Mother Mary Angelica, PCPA.

Adorable Sacred Heart of Jesus, which so greatly loved men and has not spared anything for them, unite with the Immaculate Heart of Your loving Mother, so full of merciful love, and together be my help, my comfort and my salvation. Amen.

Here is a ‘sweet’ gift from our neighbors, the SITH Sisters. Deo gratias!

A cake with K of C Knights Cookie written on it, surrounded by Oreo cookies spelling Happy Foundation Day, sits in front of a Foundation Day poster with illustrated people and religious figures.

This year, 2014, is also the 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi’s pilgrimage from Italy to Santiago de Compostela in 1214.

In St. Francis’ day, pilgrims called the Milky Way the Way of St. James as it led travelers across Europe to the holy pilgrim site in northern Galicia Spain.

“It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching.” — St. Francis of Assisi

Statue of St. Francis of Assisi with arms outstretched, surrounded by other figures, under a starry night sky. Text celebrates the 800th anniversary of the St. Francis Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

For those of you making the pilgrimage this year you can earn a special certificate called a ‘Cotolaya’, in addition to the traditional ‘Compostela, by visiting the Church of San Francisco. St Francis was also the founder of the St Francis church and convent in Santiago de Compostela. And remember to say a little prayer for us little brothers of St. Francis who came to be on this great feast day of St. James the Apostle.
