Litany of Trust

The Litany of Trust asks Jesus to free us from fear and help us trust His love. Written by the Sisters of Life, it can be prayed whenever worry, discouragement or uncertainty makes it hard to surrender to God.

Litany of Trust

From the belief that I have to earn Your love
Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear that I am unlovable
Deliver me, Jesus.

From the false security that I have what it takes
Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear that trusting You will leave me more destitute
Deliver me, Jesus.

From all suspicion of Your words and promises
Deliver me, Jesus.

From the rebellion against childlike dependency on You
Deliver me, Jesus.

From refusals and reluctances in accepting Your will
Deliver me, Jesus.

From anxiety about the future
Deliver me, Jesus.

From resentment or excessive preoccupation with the past
Deliver me, Jesus.

From restless self-seeking in the present moment
Deliver me, Jesus.

From disbelief in Your love and presence
Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear of being asked to give more than I have
Deliver me, Jesus.

From the belief that my life has no meaning or worth
Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear of what love demands
Deliver me, Jesus.

From discouragement
Deliver me, Jesus.

That You are continually holding me, sustaining me, loving me
Jesus, I trust in You.

That Your love goes deeper than my sins and failings and transforms me
Jesus, I trust in You.

That not knowing what tomorrow brings is an invitation to lean on You
Jesus, I trust in You.

That You are with me in my suffering
Jesus, I trust in You.

That my suffering, united to Your own, will bear fruit in this life and the next
Jesus, I trust in You.

That You will not leave me orphan, that You are present in Your Church
Jesus, I trust in You.

That Your plan is better than anything else
Jesus, I trust in You.

That You always hear me and in Your goodness always respond to me
Jesus, I trust in You.

That You give me the grace to accept forgiveness and to forgive others
Jesus, I trust in You.

That You give me all the strength I need for what is asked
Jesus, I trust in You.

That my life is a gift
Jesus, I trust in You.

That You will teach me to trust You
Jesus, I trust in You.

That You are my Lord and my God
Jesus, I trust in You.

That I am Your beloved one
Jesus, I trust in You.

When and How to Pray the Litany of Trust

Pray the litany when you feel afraid, face an uncertain decision or find yourself trying to control everything. Read each petition slowly and pause before its response. You can pray it alone, with your family or during Eucharistic adoration; in a group, one person can read the petitions while everyone gives the response. There is no required number of days: return to it as often as it helps you turn toward Jesus.

Who Wrote the Litany of Trust?

Sr. Faustina Maria Pia, SV, of the Sisters of Life composed the Litany of Trust. The sisters offer the complete prayer on their website and permit reprints for personal or parish use with credit to their community. Their official text records an imprimatur from the Archdiocese of New York dated May 1, 2023.

What Does the Litany of Trust Mean?

The prayer begins by asking Jesus to deliver us from fears and attitudes that make trust difficult. It then turns to affirmations of His love, presence and care. Its repeated responses give us simple words to pray even when our feelings have not caught up with our faith. Trust in God includes taking the next responsible step: asking for help, keeping an appointment, seeking forgiveness or carrying out a duty.

Can I Pray the Litany of Trust for Anxiety?

Yes. The litany names anxiety about the future and invites you to bring it to Jesus. You do not need to feel calm before you begin. If worry is persistent or disrupts daily life, prayer can accompany support from a priest, a trusted person and a qualified health professional.

Is the Litany of Trust the Same as the Surrender Novena?

No. The Litany of Trust is a series of petitions and responses by the Sisters of Life; the Surrender Novena of Fr. Dolindo is a separate nine-day devotion. Both help us entrust our lives to Jesus. You may also find the Prayer of Abandonment helpful when placing a particular concern in God’s hands, or pray the Litany of Humility when seeking freedom from the need for approval.
