Chaplet of the Holy Face
The Chaplet of the Holy Face honors the Sacred Face of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in reparation for the many outrages, blasphemies, and profanations committed against God. This devotion comes from a series of private revelations given between 1843 and 1847 to Sister Marie of St. Peter, a Carmelite nun of Tours, France. Our Lord told her that blasphemy and the profanation of Sundays and holy days were among the gravest sins of the age, and He gave her the “Golden Arrow” prayer as an act of reparation to console His Sacred Heart.
In 1847, Bishop Parisis of Langres established a Confraternity of Reparation for this devotion, and Pope Pius IX granted it indulgences. In 1885, Pope Leo XIII erected the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face for the whole Church. St. Thérèse of Lisieux and her family were among its earliest members — out of love for this devotion, she added “of the Holy Face” to her own religious name.
Those who practice this devotion were promised, through Sister Marie of St. Peter, a special share in the graces of reparation and in the conversion of sinners that Our Lord asks of His faithful.

The chaplet is prayed on a string of thirty-nine beads and a medal of the Holy Face: six large beads and thirty-three small beads, the latter recalling the thirty-three years Our Lord spent on earth.
On each of the six large beads, say:
My Jesus, mercy!
Glory be to the Father…
On each of the thirty-three small beads, say:
Arise, O Lord, and let Thine enemies be scattered, and let them that hate Thee flee before Thy Face.
On the medal, pray the Golden Arrow, given by Our Lord to Sister Marie of St. Peter as an Act of Praise to console His Sacred Heart:
May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and unutterable Name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored, and glorified, in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen.
Closing prayers
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. (Repeat seven times)
