Prayer for Miscarriage

This Catholic prayer for miscarriage entrusts a child to God’s mercy and asks comfort for grieving parents. Pray gently, with room for silence; you do not need to hide your sorrow.

Prayer for Miscarriage

Merciful Father, we place our child in Your loving care. You know the life we hoped to share and the sorrow we cannot fully express. Receive our love and our tears, and hold us close in this loss.

Give comfort to mother and father, strength for the days ahead, and patience when grief returns. Help those around us offer kindness without hurried explanations. We entrust our child to Your mercy and ask for hope in Jesus Christ, who died and rose for us. Mary, Mother of Sorrows, pray for our family. Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

When and How to Pray After Miscarriage

Pray after a pregnancy loss, on an anniversary or whenever you wish to remember your child. A parent can pray alone, and family members can pray with the parents’ consent. You may add your child’s name and finish with a Hail Mary. This is a private prayer; your parish can also offer the Church’s blessing for parents after miscarriage or stillbirth.

What Does the Catholic Church Teach About a Baby Who Dies Before Baptism?

The Church entrusts children who die without Baptism to God’s mercy and gives grounds for hope in their salvation (CCC 1261). The Catechism explains this hope. We should not turn that teaching into a declaration about an individual child’s fate or present limbo as settled doctrine.

Is There a Catholic Blessing After Miscarriage or Stillbirth?

Yes. The Church provides a blessing to comfort parents after this loss. The USCCB publishes the rite; ask your parish about receiving it. The original prayer above is separate from that approved liturgical text and does not replace its directions.

Can I Pray When I Feel Angry or Numb?

Yes. You can tell God that you are hurting, angry or unable to find words. A short invocation and silence may be all you can manage today. You do not have to explain the loss or reach a particular feeling before asking for His help.

How Can I Pray for Parents Who Have Lost a Baby?

Ask God to comfort them and give you the patience to listen. Use their child’s name if they welcome it, and avoid saying the loss was punishment, a lack of faith or something they should quickly get over. Respect their privacy and let them choose whether to pray aloud together.
