Finding Jesus in Your Everyday Trials
Allow Christ to walk with you in your garden of toil, in your heart where we have all fallen. Speak with him, your Savior who loves you, and allow that dialog to shine through your cooking, your plowing, your studying, your driving, the care of your children or your elderly parents — the tasks of your everyday. Beneath you is an undercurrent of music; the big bang of the Fall, the dark notes, but also the light. It is Christ’s light that has entered the great drama of salvation history, and the swells of heavenly choirs surround you. You are never alone.
Arvo Pärt’s Adam’s Lament
Here Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, in his symphonic work Adam’s Lament, reminds us that the very nature of music is an encounter with the sacred; a dialog, an exchange of persons, a communion. Pärt wrote the piece for mixed choir and string orchestra, drawing on the writings of St. Silouan the Athonite, who described Adam grieving in exile from Paradise — grief that becomes, in Pärt’s hands, a meditation on every soul’s longing to return to God.
