Express Your Sorrow for Sin

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us” (1 John 1:8-10).

Each of us needs to repent each and every day for our sins, our offenses against our loving God, and truly resolve to avoid sin in the future. Yes, because we are weak, we will fall again, but we must work and pray to become holier and holier. Such is God’s will for us!

“Behold Jesus Christ crucified, Who is the only foundation of our hope; He is our Mediator and Advocate; the victim and sacrifice for our sins. He is goodness and patience itself; His mercy is moved by the tears of sinners, and He never refuses pardon and grace to those who ask it with a truly contrite and humbled heart” (Saint Charles Borromeo).

When we pray the Act of Contrition, we ask our merciful God for forgiveness and for help to amend our lives. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner!
