Besieged Christians and the Holy Name of Mary

Litanies, always remind me of a march towards a battle on the horizon. I always hear Sousa and the drums, each title and invocation, a horn blast.

Devoted to Our Lady, on September 11th of 1683, King John Sobieski of Poland frees a besieged Vienna and saves Europe from invasion. In humility he proclaimed, “I came. I saw. God Conquered.”

Pope Innocent XI extended the feast of the Holy Name of Mary to the universal Church as a solemn thanksgiving for the relief of Vienna, when it was besieged by the Turks, poised to invade Europe.

This battle and that of the Battle of Lepanto are signs that Mary does truly care for her children.

Pray for all persecuted Christians, authentic refugees of war, and for all who honor the holy name of Mariam.
